I got a new used boat. It has a small 1.2hp Gamefisher trolling motor that
runs like a top. I'm looking forward to trolling for trout.

I live near a decent sized lake where I have caught trout from 14-18" from
shore. I want to do some trolling. I have a depth finder, so can find fish
and know the shallow areas and hangups. We have rainbow trout, largemouth
bass (state record came from this lake, both kept and catch-and-release)
crappie (ditto on the records), so there's some odd fish that may bite
rather than the primary prey, rainbows.

I have lots and lots of lures. I have read about brand names to troll with,
and I have several of those.

What I'm wondering about is the attractor setups. Cowbells and Ford
Fenders, and those 2-5' long contraptions that are pretty spendy. Now, it's
going to take a decent sized rod and reel just to pull those things. I have
a nice long graphite rod with an Ambassadeur 5000 I intend to use.

But just how necessary and good are those big attractor setups? Would I do
just as good with a keel sinker or a three way setup dragging a sinker to
get it down?

Thanks in advance for advice.
